The Best EASY Family Outings in Colorado Springs | Lauren Bounds Photography

Colorado Springs is one of the best places to raise a family. It’s also one of the easiest places to enjoy meaningful time together without overplanning or stress. Whether you’re a local parent looking for simple weekend ideas or a visiting family hoping to experience the area with kids in tow, these easy family outings in Colorado Springs offer space to connect, explore, and enjoy being together.

Each spot on this list is family-friendly, low-pressure, and genuinely enjoyable for both kids and parents.

1. Garden of the Gods

Garden of the Gods is a must-visit for families in Colorado Springs. With dramatic red rock formations, wide paved trails, and incredible mountain views, it’s an easy outing that still feels special. The Perkins Central Garden Trail is stroller-friendly and perfect for families with young children who want to explore without committing to a long hike.

Families love Garden of the Gods because it offers plenty of space to wander, climb on rocks safely, and take breaks when kids need them. The open layout makes it easy to move at your own pace while soaking in some of the most iconic scenery in Colorado.

2. Cheyenne Mountain Zoo

The Cheyenne Mountain Zoo is one of the most popular family attractions in Colorado Springs, and for good reason. Built into the mountainside, the zoo offers incredible views along with hands-on experiences like giraffe feeding and interactive exhibits.

This is a great option for families with toddlers through elementary-aged kids. You can spend a full day here or take it slow and enjoy just a few exhibits without feeling rushed.

3. Santa’s Workshop

Located just outside Colorado Springs in Cascade, Santa’s Workshop is a whimsical amusement park that feels especially magical for younger kids. With gentle rides, a train, classic attractions, and the chance to meet Santa year-round, it’s an easy and joyful outing for families who want something playful and nostalgic.

Santa’s Workshop is best for preschool and early elementary ages and works well as a half-day activity.

4. Pikes Peak Cog Railway

The Pikes Peak Cog Railway is an unforgettable family experience that requires very little physical effort. Kids love riding the train, and parents love the breathtaking views along the way. The ride to the summit of Pikes Peak feels adventurous without being overwhelming, making it ideal for families visiting Colorado Springs.

Be sure to dress in layers, as temperatures can change quickly at the top.

5. Cave of the Winds

Cave of the Winds in Manitou Springs is a great way to mix learning and adventure. Guided tours make the experience approachable for families, and kids love exploring the underground formations. The standard walking tour is manageable for most ages and provides a fun break from outdoor activities during warmer months.

This is a memorable experience for families with curious kids who enjoy hands-on exploration.

6. Penny Arcade in Manitou Springs

The Penny Arcade is a classic stop for families visiting Manitou Springs. Filled with vintage games and modern favorites, it’s an easy and affordable way to spend an hour or two. Kids love choosing games, and parents enjoy the nostalgic charm.

It pairs perfectly with a stroll through town or a casual lunch nearby.

7. Play and Explore at El Pomar Youth Sports Park

El Pomar Youth Sports Park is ideal for families who want room to move without committing to a hike. The wide open fields, paved walking paths, and mountain views create a relaxed environment where kids can run, ride bikes or scooters, and play freely.

This park works especially well for families with energetic kids who need space to burn off energy while parents enjoy an easy outdoor outing.

8. Run, Climb, and Cool Off at John Venezia Community Park

John Venezia Community Park is a favorite for families with young children. The modern playground features age-separated play structures, shaded seating, wide paths, and a splash pad that’s perfect during warmer months.

Parents appreciate how easy this park is — plenty of space to relax, watch kids play, and enjoy a simple afternoon without overplanning.
