Summer Books to Read for Kids | Lauren Bounds Photography
My kids love to read, which I absolutely love. I have very fond memories of all of us sitting out on our balcony in Colorado. All reading our own books and enjoying the mountain views.
I try to make sure they have several new books to read for the summer. My kids enjoy being able to pick out a new book at bookstore. We recently went to a new to us bookstore in Fort Worth called Monkey and Dog Books. They had a good kids section and my kids found some books by authors they haven’t read yet.
My kids are super close in age and tend to want to read several of the same books. I think it is also nice because they are exposed to more of a variety of books by reading each others books. They both love any graphic novel too. The books listed below are all for elementary aged kids. We love anything by Mo Willems for younger kids. One of my kids favorites is The Pigeon Needs a Bath.
Kids Summer Reading List:
I recently bought this book collection for my daughters birthday. These Mindy Kim books were the perfect fun read. She enjoyed all four, and now I want to get her more books in the collections.
CatStronauts Mission Moon is one we got recently from the book store. It’s a graphic novel that my kids think is funny. They also got the Robot Rescue.
Beau got this set for his birthday. His favorite one is Henry and Ribsy. He likes reading about this duos fishing trip together.
I remember reading Amelia Bedelia as a kid but I think is a new version of it. My daughter told me to put this one on the list!
The Wild Robot is the first in a series of three. It is being made into movie and will be in the theatre this fall. My kids definitely want to go see it. The movie coming out may be motivation for some kids to read this book this summer. Their favorite in the series is The Wild Robot Protects.
My daughter likes this one in the series because the Pug is a Prince. This book has lots of colored pictures and reads more like a graphic novel.
A Whale of the Wild was another book we got recently from the bookstore. We have A Wolf Called Wander too. Both are longer novels. My son especially likes these heartfelt stories.
I picked out Muggie Maggie because it is about a third grader and her dog looks just likes ours. It was perfect for my kids.
I hope this list is able to spark some interest in reading for your kids and that you have found something new for them to read.
Happy Reading!
