6 Fun Ways to Get in More Photos With Your Kids | Lauren Bounds Photography
If you’re anything like most moms, your phone is filled with photos of your kids — their smiles, their messy hands, the way they curl into you on the couch. And yet, when you scroll back, you notice something missing.
You.
Being in more photos doesn’t require perfect moments or big plans. It starts with choosing simple ways to share the experience instead of documenting it from the sidelines.
1. Let Your Kid Be the Photographer
Hand your child the camera or your phone and let them take photos of you.
Kids see you in a way no one else does — up close, honest, and full of connection. The photos might be imperfect, but they’re often meaningful in ways you can’t recreate.
Sit with them, laugh, and let them document you being their mom.
2. Go Exploring and Take Turns Taking Photos
Head out for a walk, hike, or casual adventure and take turns being the photographer.
Choose places that already mean something to your family — a favorite trail, a park you visit often, or a spot downtown you love spending time together. Swap the camera back and forth so everyone gets to be part of the story.
These shared experiences naturally create photos that feel personal and lived-in.

3. Set Up a Tripod and Play Together
Set up a tripod or prop your phone somewhere stable, then step into the moment.
Play a game, sit on the floor, chase each other in the yard, or cuddle on the couch. You don’t need to look at the camera or direct the moment — just let it unfold.
This is one of the easiest ways to capture real interaction without pulling yourself out of the experience.
4. Create Moments That Invite Closeness
Instead of waiting for your kids to come to you, invite connection.
Ask them to sit with you, hold your hand, or tell you a story. These simple gestures naturally pull you into the frame and create photos filled with emotion and closeness.
The goal isn’t perfection — it’s presence.
5. Use Photos as Part of Your Routine to get in more photos with your kids
Being in photos gets easier when it becomes part of your everyday life.
Let photos happen during bedtime routines, weekend walks, or slow mornings at home. When documenting your family becomes normal, you stop overthinking how you look and start focusing on how it feels.
6. Hire a Photographer to Capture Your Story
Sometimes the best way to truly be in the photos is to let someone else handle the camera.
My storytelling family sessions are designed so moms don’t have to manage the moment. I guide you gently, give your kids space to be themselves, and focus on capturing real connection — not stiff poses.
You get to stay present with your kids while I document your story exactly as it is in this season.
